I was born in Pittsburgh in the 70's  but as the child of a busy single mom, I recall spending a lot of time with my Grandparents in the more rural area of Robinson Township. My Grandmother had an affinity for giving unwanted  things a second chance . I recall many a visit to flea markets and yard sales in search of these old treasures. One such treasure was a cane rocking chair that sat out on the porch. One lazy afternoon I came across a can of paint and asked my Grandmother if I could paint that old rocking chair and of course she said yes. As my reward I was allowed to put it in my treehouse and my love for giving tired furniture a new life was born... Now I didn't immediately make this my life's work - I did what many women do. I grew up. I fell in love. I had beautiful children. I lived my life.  It is a great story of people, places and experiences. Some good and some, well, not so much - but I have no regrets. It has made me who and what I am today. I may be a little older, and a little worn - but Im still here, stil wanted and still have a long road to go. Through these years this love of re-creating, re-purposing and breathing 'new' life into 'old' treasures grew. Along with it also grew my creativity, knowledge and experience of how to turn "nothings" that were long forgotten (like that old chair)  into "somethings" that were once again desired... When my true life's masterpieces ( my children) were all grown up and ready to begin their journeys, I decided to take my passion, knowledge and experience and open my Shabby Shack. For me, every piece  of furniture - every antique is a collection of people, places and experiences and the stories that come with them are priceless. You see, much like you and me, this furniture has had a life with stories. Some good, some not so much... and it may be a little old and it may be be a little worn - but it's still here. It's still wanted and it's still got a long road to go.
